Blödsinn – so viral wie das Virus selbst

I can’t get no disinfection.

Selten so gelacht.

English Version

Nonsense – as viral as the virus itself

I can’t get no disinfection. Corona and its consequences are so drastic that you can hardly stand it. And with all the discomfort, what’s the result? Among other things, nonsense. And it comes in two forms: Brainless bullshit on the one hand, and humorous fooling around on the other. Both are spreading like a virus through the Internet. Sometimes it’s hard to decide whether to laugh or cry.

The first category of nonsense is quickly dealt with. Since the world is made up of good and evil, or black and white, some individuals feel they have been chosen to save the clueless rest of humanity with their truth. Now we even hear from celebrities from the music and kitchen industry that we are all being lied to and that Corona is the invention of an American multi-billionaire to conquer the world.

It makes you insecure. With so much uncertainty, we will not be satisfied with such plausible explanations. Which other Corona inventors could be covered up by politics and media? Maybe the toilet paper industry complex, the secret society of balcony clappers or simply the lobby of dog owners who need the empty streets to finally be able to leave the poop of their pets behind. Complex puzzles quickly deciphered. You just have to look at it properly.

Seriously. Telephone surveys show that a large percentage of Germans have a penchant for conspiracy myths. Anyone who has enough Facebook friends can confirm this. It is always the same people who push the like button at false reports marked with many exclamation marks and large letters or forward the findings of questionable experts. So you learn that supermarkets are only open two days a week, that a compulsory vaccination was decided, that alcohol helps against corona (the RKI meant the skin, not the stomach!), that the pandemic is just a normal flu and other, well, nonsense.

Fortunately, there are Internet users who manage to keep the like and share buttons waiting a little longer in order to consult tried and tested bullshit examiners like TU-Berlin and Mimikama.

Now for the category two nonsense, the Corona fooling around nonsense. It began with the observation that in a crisis, different nations hoard differently. The French, condoms, the Germans, toilet paper. Haha. Then there are the subtle ideas of a T-shirt supplier. They don’t sell sweatshirts, but spreadshirts with a statement such as I have Corona (in large print) Do you have limes (very small below). Fortunately, everyone understands the allusion to the Corona beer, which is always drunk with lime in the neck of the bottle. If you like it less complicated, choose the shirt with the imprint Stay positive! It’s a blast.

Lovers of watching slip-ups will get their money’s worth with YouTube videos showing the worst mishaps in the home „gym“. The expander jumps from the edge of the door directly into the eye, the barbell bar buries the would-be bodybuilder on the collapsing kitchen bench underneath him. Rarely has one laughed so much.

However, the YouTube platform also offers pearls of creative idiocy, especially ideas for spending time in quarantine. For example, you can put on a kitchen glove and swallow the passing cars at the window like PacMan. Or one pours oneself a glass of wine and toasts to the many reflections of oneself in multi-door bathroom mirror. This can be considered a nice stupid thing in the best sense.

It’s the many Corona-Challenges that oscillate between laughter and shame. Performer competitions on the topic are published on Internet platforms. The great thing about it is that everyone can take part and thus test their personal talent between comedy star and muppet.

  • At the #coronadancechallenge you can compete with the choreographies of other dance enthusiasts. Really has an exhilarating effect.
  • At the #ugoodchallenge the dance starts with a sneeze in the crook of your arm and then it gets rocking.
  • In the #klopapierchallenge you can juggle with toilet paper rolls, balance them over obstacles (sitting on a horse of course) or use them creatively in other ways. Nonsense for athletes and designers.
  • At the #nakedchallenge women surprise their men, who don’t expect it at the moment, with their naked sight. It can also be funny, but the connection with Corona is not immediately obvious. Variety in quarantine or something.
  • The very popular #oldpicturechallenge also seems to help against isolation-boredom. You post a child photo, the others have to recognize you. (Which is usually not that difficult considering the sender line).

If you take humour really seriously, you can book a course at the German Humour Institute Leipzig. There they have also adapted to Corona and offer the seminar „Humor in the crisis“ online. Probably you indeed need tutoring to understand the Corona joke on the homepage: When Chuck Norris sneezes, Corona buys toilet paper and noodles.

Thanks in advance for an explanation in the commentary!
